His last album, Dancing on the Ceiling, produced five US hits. This year, Lionel Richie is taking his “All the Hits, All Night Long” tour to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
In 1982, Richie’s debut self-titled solo album reached the top three of the charts. The lead single, “All Night Long,” was a Caribbean-flavored dance number.
The video for the track has a total of 33.5 million views. The singer’s daughter, Nicole Richie, was legally adopted when she was nine years old. Her father was Richie’s band member.
Richie has also written songs for other artists. He worked with Diana Ross on “Missing You” and Kenny Rogers on “Lady”. During the early 1980s, Richie shifted from his R&B roots to a more commercial sound.
Prince
The 1980s were a great time for pop music. They were a golden age in music history, and they ruled popular culture in a way the 1990s never could. Not to mention they had some remarkably weird music.
One of the era’s more memorable songs is Prince’s “Batdance” which may not be the first song you think of when you think of the 80s, but it was the most successful and iconic. It features a mashup of hip hop, rock, and funk that is hard to beat.

Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is a pop superstar who broke several records this year. She sold 80 million downloads and has seven Grammy Awards to her name. She also ranked number one in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making her the first artist to reach this milestone three times.
When she was a child, Swift lived in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Her family moved to Nashville when she was fourteen. Later, she became a writer. While there, she studied in writers’ rooms. It was there that she developed a love for music.
In the 1980s, music was associated with movies and television shows. The genre grew and evolved. Eventually, it became the stadium genre. Pop music also tended to be charity-focused. Nevertheless, it’s still the most widely consumed form of music today.
